6 Unusual Places for Your Photoshoots in Bali

Bali has so many spots that are great as photoshoot locations. However, many of them can be quite "typical". Here are some unusual places that are great as photoshoot locations.

Bali is an island where thousands of aspiring professional photographers come every year, hoping to make it on this island. It’s not without reason though; this island does have its alluring appeal: from its miles-long beautiful beaches, its unspeakably rich culture, to its vibrant community of locals and expatriates.

If you’re a professional photographer and it’s your first time stepping foot on this island, you might ask yourself: where can I find amazing places to do my photoshoot? The answer is: everywhere. Yes, it’s not hard to find an exquisite place for a photoshoot in Bali; the whole island is a gem waiting to be discovered. You can have a photoshoot session on a beach in the morning and a photoshoot session in an urban forest in the afternoon.

However, at some point in your photography journey in Bali, you will probably get tired of the usual photography spots that most photographers have frequented. Hence, we have compiled a list of unusual photography spots in Bali for your reference, and here are some of them:

Mount Batur

If you don’t mind a little hike, Mount Batur will be a perfect place for your photoshoot. The mountain is an active volcano that is considered sacred by the local Balinese Hindus. You can almost feel the sanctity of the place from the air you breathe. Seeing the natural beauty of this place, you can’t help but stand in awe.

The sunset view over the cloud from the top of the mountain is out of this world, making it a perfect spot for an activewear photoshoot or landscape photography.

On the right slope of the mountain, you can see Lake Batur, a stunning crescent-shaped volcanic crater that adds beauty to the whole landscape.

Taman Festival Park

This one is quite unusual and could be pretty interesting if you’re a fan of obscure places. Taman Festival Park is an abandoned amusement park located in Sanur, Bali. The park is now a “ghost town”, as local people believe that abandoned places are home to various kinds of spirits. Even if you don’t believe in the supernatural, the atmosphere of this place is quite unsettling.

The park was built in the 90s and became a financial and marketing failure. Since then, weeds and bushes have been wildly growing all over the place, with walls covered with murals and graffiti from before and after the place was abandoned. The park is now open for visitors who come to the site to take some photos or just roam the place. You just need to pay the guards a small amount of money to get in.

Every corner of this abandoned park can offer limitless photoshoot ideas, be it for fashion photography, urban photography, or even simple photography for your social media content. But only if you dare enough though.

Bali Botanic Garden

As the largest botanic garden in Indonesia, Bali Botanic Garden is home to thousands of living plant specimens. The dense greenery of this place makes it the ideal photography spot for photographers, amateur or professional.

A remnant of mountain rainforest also remains in this botanic garden, alongside displays of various species of plants. The nearby Lake Bratan can be seen and photographed on a clear day. Also within the compound, there’s Tapak Hill with a giant fig tree on the upper slope of it that attracts so many photographers for its magnificence.

Tianyar Savanna

This savanna is one of those places in Bali that feels like it’s not in Bali. All around, you see a vast expanse of land covered with grass, which color changes depending on the season. You can also see Mount Agung sitting in the background, adding splendor to the whole landscape.

Coming here, it feels like you’re in a savannah somewhere on the African continent. However, there are no wild animals to be seen here, only some horses and cows kept by the locals. If you’re looking for a place to do a “not-in-Bali” photoshoot, this savanna is one of the places that you should check out!

Benoa Port

The port is the main gate for cruise ships to enter and leave Bali. You can argue that this is one of the busiest spots in Bali. If you’re a photographer who likes to experiment with urban photography, this is one of the spots in Bali that you can go to. You can get so many immersive shots that capture a slice of life of people coming in and out of the island with their own unique stories.

Moreover, with all the huge ships, trawlers, and equipment at the dock, you can use them as “props” for your photoshoot, giving it an unusual concept that not many photographers in Bali probably have thought of.

Mangrove Forest in Denpasar

Being a tropical island, it is important to conserve all the tropical plant species in Bali, including the mangrove tree. The Mangrove Forest in Denpasar was a built as conservation forest for mangrove trees that are pivotal to the ecosystem. However, the forest is also open to visitors, who may be attracted by the alluring scenery of this 1,300 acres forest.

A kilometers-long wooden bridge is provided for visitors, so they can enjoy the forest with convenience. This bridge also gives a unique accent to the whole forest, making it perfect for photoshoots, especially around sunset hours. Or sunrise if you don’t mind getting up early in the morning.
